With over 30 years of experience in hosting Christmas themed events, the historic homestead of Shepherd of the Hills takes the community by storm as they offer a plethora of treats including holiday themed shows, attractions, and dining open for the public to enjoy November 1, 2020 through January 2, 2021.

Jenelle Hostetter, who has worked as the Marketing & Advertising Manager for Shepherd of the Hills for almost 2 years now, said Shepherd of the Hills is offering several new Christmas attractions and shows this 2020 season.

We have our 4 Christmas dinner shows going on in the Playhouse Theater,” Jenelle explained during an interview. “These include Shepherd’s Christmas Carol, WhoDunnit Hoedown Murder Mystery, The Christmas Chuckwagon Dinner Show, and Todd Oliver Dinner Show. Our new walk-through, The North Pole Adventure, is where you can visit Santa at his workshop, enjoy thousands of Christmas lights, take a hayride, enjoy the top of the North Pole Inspiration Tower, and more!””

Jenelle went on to say that for over three decades, Shepherd of the Hills has offered the most prominent attraction called the Trail of Lights which is a drive-thru filled with millions of Christmas lights, traditional displays and specialty holiday tunes set on the local 106.7 FM radio station. Guests are allowed to carry up to 8 people per carload and are asked to turn off their headlights upon entry to enjoy the full effect of the drive-thru.

“Nicely done! There was tons of different displays. Really enjoyed the Nativity light scene and the light arches.”

Shepherd_of_the_Hills_Christmas_Old_Matt_s_Cabin_Branson_MOAccording to Jenelle, planning for the Christmas season at Shepherd of the Hills takes a fair share of hard work and preparation by the staff of nearly 40 individuals. As a matter of fact, planning can take place as early as February every year. “Once the planning is complete, we start working on our Trail of Lights around August” Jenelle stated. ” It takes a good month or two to put the trail together. We work on casting roles and rehearsing for our Christmas plays in August as well.”

When the Pumpkinfest is over in October, the staff at Shepherd of the Hills turns the farm into a winter wonderland. This season, Jenelle said the North Pole Adventure walkthrough will have a few new features for guests including a livery stable housing real live reindeer journeyed far from the “North Pole”, Rudolph’s Hayride that takes guests through the Christmas Lights, and an all new craft area at Santa’s Workshop where visitors can make their own crafts and bring them home for the holidays.

Visitors and locals of the Branson area have come to love the deep rooted history and holiday celebrations tied to Shepherd of the Hills who, to this day, still use the original Christmas booths from when Shepherd first started!

As Jenelle laid out, “ I think people come to Shepherd to get a feel of what Christmas was like in the older days. Our shows and decorations bring you back to the 1800’s. In the Shepherd’s Christmas Carol, the story is about Ollie and other characters in our outdoor drama. People love the history we bring to our Christmas events and have been coming to Shepherd for Christmas for so long, they are now bringing back second and third generations.”
